UP College of Education, UPIS, and UP NISMED Convene to Discuss Pandemic Gains in Education

The UP College of Education and UP Integrated School faculty members, and the academic staff of UP NISMED convened at the Benitez Theater, UP College of Education on 18 March 2024, for a special Forum on Pandemic Gains in Education. Organized by the Instruction Committee, composed of members representing the tri-unit, the forum aimed to discover the unexpected gains and important lessons learned during the pandemic.

From 8:00 a.m. to noon, representatives from the different clusters of the tri-unit shared how educational services and processes had changed and how each group adapted because of the pandemic. Dr. Sheryl Lyn C. Monterola, the Director of UP NISMED, shared the consolidated gains of the Institute during the pandemic, in terms of conducting professional development activities and research, developing curriculum materials, and in implementing other extension activities.

The UP College of Education and UP Integrated School faculty members, and the academic staff of UP NISMED discussed with their clusters, during the workshop, how to apply the pandemic gains in the design and delivery of courses.


A workshop facilitated by Dr. Monalisa T. Sasing from UP NISMED, followed the presentations.  During the workshop, participants worked in clusters and discussed the pandemic gains presented to determine ways of how these would inform the design and delivery of courses. In the case of UP NISMED, the design and delivery of its training programs. A presentation of the outputs of each cluster was facilitated by Asst. Professor Francis Grace Duka-Pante. The Instruction Committee also hoped to utilize the insights gained from the forum to guide policy directions related to instruction and the tri-unit’s research and extension activities.
