Three UP NISMED staff bag awards at UPD’s Linggo ng Parangal 2024

Three UP NISMED staff were honored during the UP Diliman Linggo ng Parangal 2024 for their notable efforts and contributions to the university as public service for the Filipino people. 

Mr. Carlo M. Montillana and the late Mr. Rojerich A. Buen were awardees at the 2024 Parangal at Pagkilala para sa mga Kawani ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas on 20 June 2024 at the Ignacio B. Gimenez-Kolehiyo ng Arte at Literatura Theater.

Mr. Montillana received the PUSO Award (Inspirasyon at Husay Kagalingan) in light of his over 30 years of service as an administrative assistant and printing machine operator. While Mr. Buen, a former laboratory technician and artist-illustrator, achieved the DANGAL ng UPD Award (Pagkilala para sa Pinakamahusay na Kawani) for the various works (e.g., improvised lighting kit, acrylic lectern, etc.) he had done for UP NISMED.

In addition, Dr. Monalisa T. Sasing and Mr. Buen were recognized at the Gawad Tsanselor 2024 on 21 June at the Institute of Biology Auditorium. Dr. Sasing was awarded the Gawad para sa Natatanging Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) for the Extension Cluster. She actively spearheads the Digital Science and Mathematics Stories and Apps Project which develops original and inclusive stories and apps that promote scientific literacy, numeracy skills, and socio-emotional learning among young children. She also leads similar projects which demonstrate her commitment to contribute to increasing access of learners and educators to quality science and mathematics resources. At the same event, Mr. Buen was also confirmed as this year’s Natatanging Kawani for Level 1.

Such recognitions serve as inspiring testaments to UP NISMED’s and its staff’s continuous service in raising the level of science and mathematics teaching and learning in the Philippine education system, which is in line with the Linggo ng Parangal 2024’s theme, Lagô.
