during the research lesson implementation in a Grade 3 class

On 12 February 2020, the science teachers of PAREF Southridge School implemented the research lessons in their classes. The one-day activity was part of the three-day seminar-workshop on lesson study which UP NISMED conducted on 4-5 November 2019 at PAREF Southridge School in Muntinlupa City. Sponsored by PAREF Southridge School, the training initiated 17 science teachers to lesson study, a school-based professional learning activity wherein teachers work collaboratively. Three lesson study teams were formed. Team 1 was composed of Grades 1 to 3 teachers; Team 2 was composed of Grades 4 to 6 teachers; and Team 3 was composed of Grades 7 to 10 teachers. Each team was joined by one or two senior high school teachers.

Mr. Leo Timoteo, a member of Team, gave this impression of the whole process of lesson study, “this endeavor provided opportunities to gather realizations and at the same time discover the weaknesses and strengths of the research lesson.” He realized that what was overlooked during the lesson preparation and lesson delivery could resurface during the post-lesson reflection and discussion, due to the number of observers who examined the implementation of the research lesson.
