Dr. Erlina Ronda presented a paper at the 42nd Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA) Conference 2019 held at Curtin University, Perth Western Australia last 30 June to 4 July 2019. The theme of the conference was “Mathematics Education Research: Impacting Practice.” Her paper titled Mathematics Discourse in Instruction (MDI) Framework as Knowledge Resource for Teachers is part of her ongoing research funded by the University of the Philippines Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development (UP OVCRD) that involves developing a lesson study model informed by the MDI framework.
After the MERGA conference, Dr. Ronda proceeded to Pretoria in South Africa for the 43rd Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME) Conference which ran on 7-12 July 2019 at the University of Pretoria. The theme of the conference was “Improving Access to the Power of Mathematics.” Her research report titled Subject-Matter Knowledge and the Quality of Mathematics Made Available to Learn: Some Hypotheses, co-authored with Jill Adler of the University of the Witwatersrand, is an offshoot of an ongoing research collaboration with Prof. Adler.
After the two conferences, Dr. Ronda participated in seminars held at the School of Education of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa where she currently holds a visiting researcher status. There she presented her ongoing research project funded by OVCRD. This project is about developing a model of lesson study informed by mathematical discourse in instruction framework.
