UP NISMED deployed academic staff last December 1-14, 2018 to collect data from twelve recipient schools of DOST-SEI’s Technology Package for Student Learning Empowerment Project to determine how the technology package influenced the teaching and learning of elementary school mathematics. This summative evaluation study, headed by Dr. Monalisa Sasing, aimed to assess the extent of attainment of the objectives of the project as well as gather lessons and draw out recommendations that may influence policy and future project design and implementation.
Two staff were assigned to each of the 12 schools to conduct interviews with teachers, students, and administrators of selected recipient schools. The schools were randomly chosen from among the recipients. Six of the schools represented Luzon Island and of the six, three schools were from the National Capital Region (NCR) and three were from other regions of Luzon. Meanwhile, two schools represented the Visayas while four schools represented recipient schools in Mindanao.
At most, two implementing teachers from each school together with the school mathematics coordinator and the principal, were interviewed. In cases where classroom observations were conducted, six students from each class were interviewed. The evaluation team is now in the process of processing and analyzing the data. The final report will be released before the end of 2019.
