of Rizal High School, Pasig, Metro Manila

Dr. Erlina R. Ronda presented her paper, A Framework for Analyzing the Quality of Mathematics Lessons, at the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) International Conference 2018. The conference was held at Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China on 23-26 November 2018 with the theme, Lesson Study and Teacher Education: International Dialogue.

In the paper, Dr. Ronda proposed her adapted version of the mathematical discourse in instruction (MDI) framework. The MDI framework is a research analytic tool which she co-developed with Prof. Jill Adler as part of her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

While both the MDI framework and the adapted version are descriptive and evaluative of the quality of mathematics that is made available to learn during lesson implementation, the adapted version has the added element of being descriptive and evaluative of the quality of mathematics teaching as well. The original version may be accessed here. The adapted version is forthcoming.
