NISMED Staff Participates in Research Workshop at the University of the Witwatersrand

Dr. Erlina Ronda of the High School Mathematics Group participated in an international research workshop hosted by the School of Education of the University of the Witwatersrand last 2-14 May 2016. This is a continuation of the workshop that begun in August 2015 that focused on the Mathematical Discourse in Instruction (MDI) framework they are developing using data from the Philippines, India and Tanzania, as well as South Africa. The participants of the workshop include mathematics education professors from India, Tanzania, United Kingdom, and South Africa. Apart from presenting the analysis of the video transcript from the Philippines, Dr. Ronda also presented her use of the MDI Analytic tool as a pedagogic tool in the organization of the content of Grade 11 materials she is working on at NISMED. The workshop also included preparation for the joint Discussion Group the MDI team will run at ICME13 in Hamburg in July 2016.
