Dr. Treyes and Ms. Gutierrez Participate in International Symposium

Dr. Rodolfo S. Treyes of the High School Biology Group and Ms. Jacqueline Rose M. Gutierrez of the High School Chemistry Group participated in the international symposium, Curriculum Development and Teacher Education in Asia and Africa, held on 21-24 February 2016 in Tokyo, Japan.

The symposium aimed to “bring together policymakers and academic researchers from different parts of the world to present the current status of curriculum development and teacher education in their respective countries and to discuss potential collaboration and cooperation for the coming decade to ensure quality education for the world’s children.”

Dr. Treyes presented a paper titled, The State of Science and Mathematics Education in the Philippines under the K to 12 Education Reform. He provided a historical background of science education in the Philippines and talked about its current status in the K to 12 education reform.
Prior to the international symposium, a ceremony for the retirement of Dr. Hideo Ikeda, a longtime partner of UP NISMED, was also held. During the ceremony, Dr. Ikeda gave a commemorative lecture titled, Trends and Future of Japanese International Cooperation in Mathematics and Science Education.
