DPS Conducts 2nd In-House Seminar on Preparing Printing Cost Estimates

Sixteen administrative staff participated in the second part of the In-House Seminar on Preparing Printing Cost Estimates for Digital Production Printers held on 5 June 2025 at the UP NISMED Conference Room. The seminar was organized by the Desktop and Printing Section (DPS) as part of its staff development plan. Two representatives from Copylandia Corporation, Mr. Dave Concepcion and Mr. Jayvey Velasquez, served as resource persons.

The presentations highlighted the features of the digital printing machines, specifically the newly purchased ComColor and Develop Ineo models for the DPS. Mr. Concepcion and Mr. Velasquez demonstrated how these machines can automatically compute ink usage for each print job, enabling staff to determine ink costs more accurately, which is an essential factor in preparing printing cost estimates.

On 14 August 2024, an introductory seminar on preparing printing cost estimates was held, facilitated by Mr. Nestor M. Manrique Jr., Printing Press Supervisor. He discussed the importance of job specification requirements, which include supplies and materials, the type of printing machine used, and outsourced processes such as platemaking, die-cutting, and lamination. He explained how each factor contributed to the overall print cost estimate by asking participants to do sets of estimating activities which were based on actual job order requests.

Before the second session concluded, Ms. Cecile N. Sales, Head of the DPS, shared plans to shift from manual to automated cost computation for digital print jobs. She outlined the requirements for the project, including input fields, an electronic platform, and collaboration with IT experts. Specific tasks were then assigned to DPS members, with the goal of completing the system before the year ends.
