A small and simple gathering of UP NISMED colleagues and friends was held on 3 May 2024 at the First Floor Lobby of the Science Teacher Training Center to celebrate Dr. Aida I. Yap’s 65th birthday and 28 years of dedicated service to the Institute. The event was filled with warm affection as she was showered with gifts, heartfelt greetings, and surprises, including production numbers and video presentations thoughtfully organized by the Socials Committee.

Dr. Yap joined UP NISMED as a Science Education Specialist I in 1996. She served in various capacities as Chair of the Elementary School Mathematics Group, Deputy Director for Administration, and Deputy Director for Research and Extension. In 2018, she was appointed by the Board of Regents as the 8th UP NISMED Director. In the same year, she was conferred an Outstanding Alumna Award by the University of the East Alumni Association, Inc. (UEAA) for her dedicated service and exceptional accomplishments in her field of expertise. In 2023, Dr. Yap was awarded the prestigious UP Diliman Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging REPS for her significant contributions in spearheading numerous research projects, professional development programs, and extension activities of the Institute.
