Go Teacher Go! Bags Two Gandingan Core Awards

The online radio program of the University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED), Go, Teacher Go! (GTG) which airs on DZUP 1602, bagged the Most Development-Oriented Educational Program and the Most Development-Oriented Science and Technology Program during the 18th Gandingan Awards held on 4 May 2024 at the Charles Fuller Baker Memorial Hall, UP Los BaƱos. The Gandingan Awards is a student organization-led, university-based recognition program dedicated to honoring development-oriented content created by national, local, or community-based media organizations.

With over 200 entries from 28 media networks and platforms in all awards, GTG clinched two of the 18th Gandingan core awards for its dedication to educational development and its promotion of science and technology to its audiences. On behalf of the team, GTG program’s hosts, Klasmeyts Renz G. Salas and Ralph Ian M. Robles, delivered acceptance speeches for each award, respectively. Furthermore, the program also earned a nomination in the general award category for the Most Development-Oriented Online Video.

This year’s Gandingan awards focused on the issues faced by Filipino farmers, fisherfolks, and those working in agriculture, including the state of Philippine agriculture and food security. Aligned with the theme, GTG was recognized for its episode on food security as a cross-cutting concept in teaching life science topics featuring Teachers Ronia Melecia R. Mosaso and Michael Anthony B. Mantala of UP NISMED’s High School Biology Group. With about 51 million Filipinos facing food insecurity from 2020 to 2022, the episode unraveled scientific discourses about solutions to hunger and its curriculum integration.
