UP NISMED Conducts Training on Developing PISA-like Assessment Tasks

One hundred eighteen mathematics and science junior high school teachers from the Schools Division of Cagayan attended the Online Training on Developing Assessment Tasks that Promote Scientific and Mathematical Literacies. The training was designed to help mathematics and science teachers develop assessment tasks that promote scientific literacy and mathematical literacy anchored on the PISA assessment framework. The training also stressed the importance of solving mathematics and science problems in real-life contexts. As part of their outputs, the participants developed mathematics and science assessment tasks that expose students to connecting the context of the problem to their understanding of the major concepts, theories, and facts that form as bases for their scientific and mathematical knowledge. The participants also learned to use computer-based tools to prepare the computer-based version of the assessment tasks they developed. The online training also introduced participants to assessment strategies that can be implemented in remote learning.

Dr. Soledad A. Ulep discussed with the participants their feedback on the PISA-Like mathematics assessment task.

The first batch, which was composed of high school Mathematics, Biology, and Physics teachers,  was conducted on 13-17 December 2021. The second batch will be conducted on 9-11, 14-15 February 2022 and will be composed of high school Mathematics, Earth Science, and Chemistry teachers.
