NISMED Congratulates Mrs. Lucille Gregorio as ICASE Awardee

Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Office Jakarta,
awards the certificate of recognition to Mrs. Lucille Gregorio.

The International Council of Associations for Science Education (ICASE) awarded Mrs. Lucille Custodio-Gregorio a certificate of recognition in appreciation of her outstanding contributions for advancing ICASE mission to extend and improve science education in the Asia-Pacific region. The certificate was presented on 4 December 2019 by Professor Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCO Jakarta), during the 6th ICASE World Conference on Science and Technology Education held in Pattaya, Thailand on 2-6 December 2019. 

Mrs. Gregorio is an active member of ICASE where she served as member of the Advisory Board and President-Elect before. She mentors young professionals interested in programs related to inclusivity in promoting scientific and technological literacy and sustainable development. 

Mrs. Gregorio also served as deputy director of the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM) in Penang, Malaysia from 1985 to 1989. She joined UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau of Education, Bangkok in 1990 as science education specialist. Before joining these organizations, Mrs. Gregorio worked at NISMED as chair of Biology Education Group. 

Through NISMED, Mrs. Gregorio continues to support science education in the country. In a NISMED Public Lecture held in November 2017, she encouraged the teachers and school administrators to make the teaching of science more interesting and relevant to the daily life of the learners. In a colloquium held in October 2018, Mrs. Gregorio shared her insights and experiences with the UP NISMED staff regarding the development of curriculum materials in the Philippines and in Vietnam.
