NISMED staff joins various activities of the Health and Wellness Committee. |
To achieve long-term health through exercise and related physical fitness activities, the Health and Wellness Committee (HWC) of UP NISMED organizes regular health and fitness activities. This is following the University’s call for the implementation of a campus-wide Wellness Program (Memorandum No. NTC-14-71, dated November 28, 2014).
This year was a busy year for HWC 2019 team. Early in the year, various fitness activities were organized that staff can participate in for an hour each week to de-stress and to take control of their own health. These activities were badminton, table tennis, basketball, Zumba, and karaoke. Four seminar-workshops (SW) were also organized to create awareness and provide additional knowledge to staff regarding health and wellness issues. These SW’s were (1) First Step Toward Fitness: Stretching Exercises by Nelson O. Mariano (February 15); (2) Practical Nutrition and Hydration Practices by Marla Frances T. Mallari (March 29); (3) Seminar on Dengue Prevention by Ma. Dulcelina O. Sebastian (August 23); and (4) Hypertension and Diabetes by Dr. Maria Daniela R. Bantiles (September 27).
HWC also facilitated NISMED’s participation in the University of the Philippines Diliman Police Annual Basketball Tournament. Even winless after six games, Team NISMED kept playing hard with all heart to emerge victorious, getting a win in its seventh and last game.
In another battle of skill and wit, NISMED staff joined the NISMED Amazing Race 2019, co-organized by the Health and Wellness Committee and Socials Committee last November 27. This is part of NISMED’s 55th anniversary celebration. Six teams competed to be the ultimate champion of the event. Despite the heat and tiring challenges, everyone ended up as winners as smiles were displayed all throughout the race.
NISMED Health and Wellness Committee for 2019 is composed of Renz G. Salas (Audiovisual Group) as chair, Albert A. Lopez (General Services Section) as vice chair, Garnet P.
