The STEM+PH Collaborative, in partnership with the UP College of Education (CoE) and UNILAB Foundation, conducted a 3-day workshop called “STEM+PH Educators’ Workshop on Engineering Design Process (EDP)”. This was held on December 3-5, 2018 at the UP College of Education, Diliman, Quezon City.

The workshop framework has been based on the global standards of STEM from the benchmarking tour attended by the STEM+PH Collaborative in Boston, Massachusetts in April 2018. Through the team’s initiative, the STEM+PH workshop has commenced last year and currently being cascaded in the country as UNILAB Foundation’s flagship program with the aim of strengthening the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in the Philippines.

Members of the STEM+PH Collaborative from the UP CoE and Philippine Science High School (PSHS) facilitated the workshop. Among them were professors from the UP CoE Science and Mathematics Area namely Dr. Sheryl Lyn C. Monterola, Dr. Edwehna Elinore S. Paderna, and Dr. Nympha B. Joaquin; and educators from the PSHS system, Ms. Maria Veronica Torralba, Mr. Leo Andrei Crisologo, and Ms. Maria Elena Pinlac. Together with other Filipino educators, scientists, and curriculum developers, they form the brightest prime mover team of STEM education in the Philippines.

During the 3-day workshop, the participants were given the opportunity to immersed themselves in the process of engineering design. A total of 32 educators attended the workshop; 30 academic staff and professors from UP NISMED and UPIS, and two professors from the Ateneo De Manila University.
