UP NISMED honors Ms. Navalta, Ms. Gabuat, and Mr. Saulog on their Retirement

After 37 years of dedicated service to the Institute, Ms. Leosan R. Navalta of the Library Section retired on 31 December 2015. Ms. Navalta was an extremely positive and dependable employee who, on a daily basis, went “above and beyond” her duties as administrative support to UP NISMED. She was also a valuable asset to the Library Section especially in performing the tasks of a reference librarian by providing answers to many reference queries. To formally honor her for her outstanding service, UP NISMED organized a retirement party on 20 January 2016. Her immediate family, former colleagues, and staff joined in the celebration. Libzone, a group of singing librarians, also performed during the party.

After 26 years of dedicated service as UP NISMED Hostel’s supervisor, Ms. Alice P. Gabuat retired on 4 March 2016. Ms. Gabuat was a former teacher at Lapu-Lapu Elementary School, Manila. She oversaw the daily operations of UP NISMED’s Hostel from front desk matters, to reservation concerns, and even to housekeeping and maintenance considerations. She is a jolly, thoughtful, and sweet person who was always willing to extend help to anyone. The Socials Committee, Hostel staff, and her children prepared a Hawaiian-themed retirement party at the UP NISMED Hostel lobby to honor her contributions to the Institute.

Two weeks after Ms. Gabuat’s retirement party, a cowboy-themed retirement party to honor Mr. Honorio S. Saulog from the Maintenance and Equipment Development Section was held on 18 March 2016. After 32 years of service, Mang Boy as he is fondly called, bade farewell to UP NISMED. As Precision Instrument Technician, he has contributed immensely to the Institute; his knowledge in the improvisation of science and mathematics materials and equipment has helped many academic staff in developing instructional materials. He also helped in the maintenance and repair of UP NISMED facilities and in laboratory works, especially during teacher training programs. His family and former colleagues joined the UP NISMED staff during the celebration.

The UP NISMED family wishes Ms. Navalta, Ms. Gabuat, and Mr. Saulog, all the best.
