Multimedia materials development project

For years, UP NISMED has been developing curriculum materials either in print or video format. In 2011, the Institute explored the possibility of developing materials which can both be accessed online and through using the traditional disk storage device for those with no internet connection. The Institute sought the help of UP Information Technology Training Center for this project and they generously gave NISMED free hosting in their server and technical assistance for its administration.

The Multimedia Materials Development Project (MMDP) team created the AGIMAT sa Pagtuturo website. AGIMAT is an acronym for Agham, Impormasyon, at Matematika. The site contains free resource materials developed by UP NISMED staff for teaching K to 12 science and mathematics and for teachers’ continuing professional development. AGIMAT went live in March 2012 at
http://curriculum.nismed.upd.edu.ph. The materials for teaching science that are now onsite include: how to construct a lung-chest model and how to use it; how to make an improvised electrolysis apparatus; and conducting science investigatory projects. For the mathematics teaching materials, there are now over 10 interactive worksheets for teaching basic geometric construc-tion, triangle congruence, and functions including a sample investigation for elementary school mathematics. For teachers’ professional development, two presentations on lesson study have also been uploaded. The resources are in slide presentations, videos, podcasts, applets, and document formats. So far, the materials are in English but resources in Filipino are in the offing.
