UP NISMED is proud to welcome two new staff members who join the ranks of a new generation of education researchers committed to advancing the Institute’s mission and advocacies.
Mr. Alec Cedric B. Aganus is the newest addition to the Elementary School Science Group. He holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education in Physical Science from Cagayan State University and a Master of Science in Teaching, major in General Science, from Saint Paul University of the Philippines.
Prior to joining UP NISMED, Mr. Aganus served as a Special Science Teacher I at Cagayan National High School, teaching Physics and Research for six years. During his tenure, he pioneered the use of Learning Action Cells to enhance and streamline the instruction of Practical Research within the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand. He also served as a member of the Regional Research Technical Working Group at the Department of Education–Regional Office 02, and as a Division Research Technical Working Group member at the Schools Division Office of Tuguegarao City.
Outside of work, Mr. Aganus enjoys reading, watching science fiction films, caring for his cat named Siam, and collecting Hirono figurines.

UP NISMED is also pleased to welcome Mr. Joshua Salazar as the newest member of the High School Mathematics Group. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education, major in Mathematics and minor in Physics, from the University of the Philippines. He has also completed the academic requirements for his Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics at the Technological University of the Philippines.
While teaching Junior High School Mathematics, Mr. Salazar has also been actively involved in developing instructional materials, conducting demonstration teaching, and speaking at various professional development engagements. In 2020, he served as a teacher-broadcaster for DepEd TV and became an online tutor for DepEd ETUlay until 2022. In recognition of his exemplary service, he was named Most Outstanding Proficient Teacher in Manila in 2023. He believes that his interest in mathematics curriculum development led him to bring his expertise to NISMED.
As a way to unwind, Mr. Salazar enjoys watching mystery and detective shows with his wife and spending quality time with their one-year-old child.
