UP NISMED Conducts ARS Electronica FutureLab Academy: STEAM for Humanity Workshop

The UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development conducts the ARS Electronica FutureLab Academy: STEAM for Humanity workshop on 25 October 2022 at the UP NISMED Science Teacher Training Center Auditorium. The workshop is conducted in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy Manila, ReFocus Austria, UNILAB Foundation, and the Center for Integrated STEM Education (CISTEM), Inc. Participants to the workshop are composed of people from various fields of various academic institutions, government agencies, and other organizations. UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel R. Nemenzo, welcomes the participants to the workshop.

Mr. Horst Hoertner, the Chief Technical Officer of the Ars Electronica Center, Austria, is facilitating the workshop. Mr. Hoertner is an expert in the design of Human-Computer Interaction, and he holds several patents in the field. He has also been a conjoint Professor at the University of Newcastle/Australia since 2013.

The STEAM for Humanity workshop focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) for Humanity. The Ars Electronica Futurelab is a laboratory and atelier for future systems, and it serves as the think-and-do tank of Ars Electronica. It places the human being at the center of research, taking into consideration the social aspects of technological developments and how they impact the future of society. Aside from this, it also serves as an avenue for participants to network and discuss various methods of creativity and technology in line with these developments. The workshop was also conducted as a pre-summit activity for the 3rd Integrated STEM Leadership Summit in Asia, which will be held on 3-5 November 2022.
