Natatanging REPS award from Chancellor Michael
L. Tan.
Dr. Risa L. Reyes, former UP NISMED deputy director for research and extension, received the Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) for her significant efforts to push forward Lesson Study, a school-based teacher professional development model. The awarding ceremony was held at the Institute of Biology Auditorium on 20 May 2016.

Doc Ris, as her UP NISMED colleagues fondly call her, wrote the lion’s share of “How to Conduct Lesson Study in your School: A Tool Kit.” This UP NISMED publication was distributed in the 2014 International Conference in Science and Mathematics Education (ICSME) and is now being used as a reference material by teachers and graduate students as they conduct lesson study in their own schools or universities. Dr. Reyes also very ably coordinated the training of trainers of the K to 12 Grades 1, 2, 7, and 8 science and mathematics teachers under the Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BEAM-ARMM) Project of the Department of Education funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).

The award caps her 35 years of government service as she retires in June 2016.

Congratulations, Doc Ris!
