UP NISMED Takes Part in DepEd’s National Mathematics Program

A team of UP NISMED staff developed the Rapid Mathematics Assessment (RMA) toolkits for grades 1, 2, and 3 in support to the Department of Education’s (DepEd) National Mathematics Program, which aims to develop RMA for kindergarten to grade 3, grades 4 to 6, and grades 7 to 10. A toolkit consists of a Teacher’s Booklet, a Learner’s Booklet, and a Learner’s Scoring Sheet. The toolkits are expected to be ready for the kickoff of DepEd’s Summer Learning Camp on 17 July 2023.

Teachers and instructional leaders validate the assessment items in the RMA during the workshop organized by the ABC+ in cooperation with DepEd and UNICEF.

The development of the RMA toolkits is an additional activity under Phase 3 of the ABC+ project. Part of the development of the toolkits for grades 2 and 3 is the UP NISMED team’s facilitation of a workshop organized by the ABC+ team in cooperation with DepEd and UNICEF. The workshop was held at the Bayview Park Hotel on 7-8 June 2023. It aimed to validate and revise the assessment items of the RMA. Thirty participants from eight regions in Luzon participated in the workshop. The participants consisted of 18 instructional leaders,

8 teachers, and 4 supervisors from the DepEd Central Office. The RMA toolkit for grade 1 was developed after the workshop. Its validation will be done by the same participants. Based on their feedback, the toolkit will be revised accordingly.

The NISMED team was composed of Dr. Aida I. Yap, Ms. Edna G. Callanta, Ms. Dana M. Ong, and Mr. Aldrin O. Nazareno of the Elementary School Mathematics (ESM) Group, Ms. Haidee P. Rosete of the High School Mathematics (HSM) Group, and Dr. Monalisa T. Sasing of the Information Science Group and the Deputy Director for Research and Extension.
