Dr. Canonigo Presents Two Conference Papers as Offshoots of Dissertation Research

Dr. Allan Canonigo, in November 2021, presented two papers as offshoots of his dissertation research during the 7th National Research Conference in Science and Mathematics Education and also during the International Conference on Philosophy of Education.

The first paper, titled “The Mediating Effects of Problem-Solving Flexibility and Self-Efficacy on Teacher Positioning and Student Mathematics Identity: Implications for Classroom Instruction, was presented during the 7th National Research Conference in Science and Mathematics Education, held virtually on 10–12 November 2021. The said paper was one of those awarded first prize. The conference was collaboratively organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education (CBPSME) and the National Consortium in Graduate Science and Mathematics Education (NCGSME). The participants to this conference were DOST-SEI scholars and scholar-graduates.

Identity Towards Framing a Professional Development Model in the New Normal.

The other paper, titled “Rethinking Teacher Positioning and Student Mathematics Identity Towards Framing a Professional Development Model in the New Normal” was presented during the International Conference on Philosophy of Education, held also virtually, on 12–14 November 2021. The paper centered on how teacher positioning influences student mathematics identity and how this relationship could be utilized in framing a professional development model in the new normal. The conference was organized by The Philosophy of Education and Values Education Program of the College of Education in UP Diliman, in collaboration with the School of Education of the Indiana University Southeast, with the theme “Rethinking Education in Times of Crisis: New Paradigms, Innovative Practices, and Meaningful Outcomes for Diversity and Social Justice.”
