In recognition of her 39 years of loyal and dedicated service, UP NISMED prepared a retirement program for Ms. Wilhelmina “Wilna” L. Dela Paz on 11 June 2019 at the UP NISMED Auditorium. The colorful floral-themed program was graced by Wilna’s family members and friends from other units of the University, former colleagues, and staff. Special guests who gave warm greetings and inspiring messages were UP Vice President for Administration, Prof. Nestor G. Yunque; FPSMER Board Member and former UP NISMED staff, Dr. Ma. Bella A. Dumas, and retired former Deputy Director, Dr. Risa L. Reyes. In their messages, former colleagues Ms. Soledad P. Sagun and Ms. Agustina C. Bautista, cheerfully welcomed Wilna to their “club.”
Wilna joined UP NISMED in 1980 as Clerk Typist. Her knowledge and experience in desktop publishing and precise typing skills helped the academic staff in the development of teaching guides and students’ learning materials throughout the years. She became Administrative Assistant V in 1991 and served as Officer-in-Charge of the Desktop Section for quite some time.
A pre-retirement activity
The DZUP Go Teacher Go! (GTG) broadcast on 28 March 2019 featured the use of technology to support and facilitate services in desktop publishing and in the library. Wilna, together with Ms. Cecile N. Sales, Desktop and Printing Section Head, served as resource person for a segment of this episode, titled “From Typing Pool to Desktop: Coping with Technology Change”. They discussed the tools and equipment that were used in the development of print instructional materials in the ‘80s. They also narrated the challenges brought about by the rapid change in technology and how the Institute and the staff in the Desktop Section coped with this big change. For the remaining segment of this episode, Ms. Cherry A. Velasco, NISMED College Head Librarian, led the discussion on the digitization process that is being done in NISMED Library.
