Health and Wellness Committee Organizes a Mental Health In-house Seminar

Sixty-six UP NISMED staff members participated in an in-house seminar organized by the Health and Wellness Committee (HWC), titled “Very Demure, Very Mindful: Empowering Your Mind for Better Well-Being.” The seminar was held on 10 October 2024 at the UP NISMED Auditorium, with Dr. Lorelei R. Vinluan, a registered guidance counselor and faculty member of the UP College of Education, as the resource speaker.

Dr. Lorelei R. Vinluan explains mental health
as the person’s overall psychological well-being.

Dr. Vinluan presented insights from the Kumusta Ka? Health and Wellness 2024 Survey conducted earlier by the HWC. She addressed the participants’ responses and introduced practical strategies for managing work-related stress. One of the strategies is to know oneself by undergoing standard tests such as IQ, EQ, and Adversity Quotient (AQ) assessments. Others include cultivating self-motivation and adopting a habit of smiling. Dr. Vinluan also shared tips for creating a personalized mental health toolkit to relieve stress. This includes making a dream board, revisiting personal goals, and achieving them, as well as following stress-relief models to stay motivated and move forward.

After her talk, Dr. Vinluan offered to administer free EQ tests to interested NISMED staff. Together with a number of volunteers, she provided one-on-one consultations to discuss the results, providing personalized insights and guidance that would help improve the staff’s mental well-being.
