The year 2020 has been a busy year for the Institute’s Gender and Development (GAD) Committee. In February, the GAD Committee members, together with NISMED officials, attended the “One Billion Rising” march in celebration of the International Women’s Month. On 6 March 2020, the University of the Philippines Diliman Gender Office (UPDGO) led a multisectoral gathering in celebration of the International Women’s Month where the University’s advocates of women and gender rights held a program at Quezon Hall. With the theme “KKK 2020: Isulong ang Kalusugan, Kalayaan at Kaginhawaan ng Kababaihan at ng Bayan!”, the program strengthens the commitment to continue women empowerment, human rights, and gender equality.
At the onset of the lockdown due to the pandemic, simple “kumustahan” and meetings about GAD were done online using Zoom and social media platforms. The GAD Committee also participated in the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women in November. Lastly, in December 2020 UPDGO conducted a GAD (Gender and Development) Summit for the GAD Focal Point Persons. This year’s summit focused on the “Implications of COVID and the New Normal on GAD Work: Approaches and Activities''. The summit sessions provided UPD GAD Committee members of GAD capability building and training.
